Teachers in Punjab whose students perform well in the Class 9 board examinations are set to receive formal recognition from the provincial education department.
The Punjab School Education Department has introduced performance-based appreciation measures covering government schools across the province. The new approach is aimed at encouraging better results while also holding schools accountable when performance remains very low.
Teachers With 80%+ Results Can Earn Special Recognition
Teachers whose students achieve more than 80 percent marks will be considered for special appreciation.
Under the new policy, successful teachers will receive badges and certificates in recognition of their performance.
The idea is to highlight teachers who are helping students achieve strong academic results rather than focusing only on schools with poor performance.
Students and School Heads Can Also Receive Certificates
Recognition is not limited to teachers.
According to the department’s directive, head teachers, teachers and students can receive appreciation certificates when the result falls within the 60% to 79% range.
This gives students a role in the recognition process as well, especially those who achieve good results in their Class 9 examinations.
Very Low Results May Lead to Departmental Action
The policy also sets out consequences for schools where performance is extremely weak.
Where the pass rate falls below 20 percent, the department has directed that formal disciplinary proceedings be taken against the concerned head teachers and subject teachers.
The action will be carried out under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act, 2006.
What About BS-17 Teachers?
The department has also addressed cases involving head teachers and teachers working in BS-17 posts.
Such cases will be sent to the relevant department for further action according to the applicable rules.
This means the response to poor results can depend on the position and service status of the teacher concerned.
District Education Authorities Have Been Informed
The directive has been sent to the Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities across Punjab.
These officials are responsible for ensuring that the instructions reach the relevant schools and that the required action or recognition is carried out.
The department has also asked officials to keep track of the results and report back on the steps taken.
Schools Have 15 Days to Report Action
The department has set a deadline for officials to submit their progress.
A departmental action report must be sent to the Director of Public Instruction within 15 days.
This report will show what action has been taken in cases that require disciplinary proceedings and how the department’s instructions have been implemented.
