A team of Pakistani schoolgirls has secured the top position at the 2026 Global Future Space Scholars’ Meet (GFSSM) in Beijing, giving Pakistan a notable result at an international science and space competition.
The winning delegation came from Lahore Grammar School (LGS) 55 Main, whose all-girls team was named the Global Finals Champion at the event held in China.
LGS 55 Main Team Becomes Global Champion
The championship-winning group included 12 students from LGS 55 Main. They were:
Alina Imran, Amna Ahmed, Areeba Shakeel, Eshaal Haroon, Fatima Farukh, Mariam Abdul Rahman, Shanzay Umar, Sheza Imran, Umayma Fatima, Wania Saqib, Zahra Fatima and Zainab Tahir.
The team travelled to Beijing with teachers Amina Sabahat and Nadeem Anwar, who accompanied and mentored the students during the competition.
What the Global Space Competition Involved
The GFSSM is a school-based course, offering the opportunity to combine subjects such as science, engineering, business, design and communication.
Instead of an exam, participants engage in a series of challenges based on teams that involve them in solving problems and generating ideas within a set time frame.
For the 2026 final round, students from various countries were assigned to international teams and required to conduct themselves as virtual companies.
The groups were given only 24 hours to come up with a proposal for a space-related project. The teams then presented their ideas and answered questions from a judging panel.
Beijing Finals Brought Together Students From Nine Countries
The final round was held in Beijing from August 13th to 17th, 2026.
The final competition was attended by approximately 260 students from nine countries and the larger GFSSM event was attended by students from over 17 countries and regions.
Pakistan was represented by students from several LGS campuses in Lahore, including 55 Main, 14-C and Phase 5.
Another LGS Team Finishes Third
The success was not limited to the winning 55 Main team.
Students from LGS Phase 5 also made it to the top of the final standings, finishing as second runner-up, or third place. Their position was shared with three other international teams.
The Phase 5 delegation included Pareesa Zaid, Muhammad Raamish Nauman, Muhammad Rafay Ammar, Ibrahim Lodhi, Amna Qureshi, Umair Alam, Zoya Hasan Tariq, Alina Binte Amir, Isra Ahmed Bashir, Safdar Zaman, Muhammad Ahmad and Ali Khurram.
A Strong Result for Pakistani Students
With LGS 55 Main taking the championship and LGS Phase 5 finishing third, Pakistani students achieved two prominent results at this year’s GFSSM final.
The performance also gave students from Lahore an opportunity to compete alongside participants from different countries on an international platform focused on science, space and problem-solving.
