Pakistani students have won one gold and two silver medals at the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026) held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The competition took place from August 2 to August 8, 2026, with nearly 120 students and experts from 19 countries participating.
Three Medals for Pakistan
Muhammad Ali from Government College University (GCU), Lahore, secured the gold medal for Pakistan. Muhammad Usman and Seerat Fatima Bhatti won silver medals, while Syed Shuja Haider was also part of the Pakistani delegation.
The students qualified for the international event through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), a programme launched by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission to identify talented students and prepare them for international competitions.
Pakistan to Host the 2027 Olympiad
Pakistan has been selected to host the fourth International Nuclear Science Olympiad in 2027.
The selection was formally marked during the Jeddah event, where representatives from Pakistan received a commemorative memento.
The international competition is aimed at secondary-school students interested in nuclear science and gives young participants an opportunity to compete at an international level.
