The Punjab government is preparing to introduce a commercial policy for universities, a move that would be the province’s first such policy for higher education institutions.
Punjab Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat said the policy will be introduced after receiving approval from the provincial Cabinet.
The government also plans to increase funding for universities this year as institutions continue to deal with financial pressures.

The proposed university commercial policy has not yet been introduced. According to the minister, it will move forward after approval from the Punjab Cabinet.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a new water filtration plant at the School of Chemistry, University of the Punjab.

According to the minister, the University of the Punjab recorded a 1,200% increase in revenue over the past two years.
He credited Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah with helping the university overcome much of its previous financial deficit.

The minister also spoke positively about welfare projects carried out through public-private partnerships.
