The Punjab School Education Department has announced a province-wide sports programme for students of government schools, with boys and girls set to take part in a range of competitions during the coming academic period.
The programme will cover several popular sports, including hockey, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, athletics and chess.
The department has also issued instructions for organising the competitions at different administrative levels across Punjab.
Competitions Will Be Held in Four Stages
Students will compete through four stages, beginning at the tehsil level and moving towards the provincial level.
The competitions will be organised at:
- Tehsil level
- District level
- Division level
- Provincial level
This structure will allow students to progress through the competition system based on their performance.
Committees Set Up for Sports Activities
The School Education Department has created committees at each level to manage and supervise the competitions.
At the tehsil level, the Deputy District Education Officer will serve as convener, while the relevant head teacher will work as secretary.
The district committee will be headed by the Chief Executive Officer Education. At the divisional level, the divisional director will lead the committee, while the Director Public Instruction Punjab will serve as convener of the provincial committee.
| Level | Committee Convener |
|---|---|
| Tehsil | Deputy DEO |
| District | CEO Education |
| Division | Divisional Director |
| Province | Director Public Instruction Punjab |
Sports Calendar to Be Prepared by September
The department has directed the committees to prepare and issue the sports calendar by the end of September.
The calendar will help schools and students know when and where the competitions will take place at each level.
Government schools across Punjab have been instructed to ensure student participation and make the necessary arrangements for the activities.
Focus on Students’ Physical and Mental Well-Being
The department says the sports programme is intended to promote better physical and mental health among students.
Regular participation in sports can also give students an opportunity to develop teamwork, discipline and confidence alongside their academic studies.
What Students Should Know
The new sports programme will involve boys and girls from government schools across Punjab.
Students interested in participating should keep in touch with their schools for information about the sports offered, selection process and local competition schedule. The detailed sports calendar is expected to be issued by the end of September.
