Abstract

The Israeli nuclear programme is a highly sensitive and important issue at home. Any effort to bring Israel, its nuclear programme, or its atrocities against the Palestinians to the forefront is met with resistance by powerful and prominent pro-Israel lobbies, pressure groups, media, and financial institutions. Since much of the study on the subject is based on the prevalent conspiracy theories surrounding the issue or a narrow subjective interpretation of Tel Aviv’s official position, these issues make it difficult to evaluate the Israeli nuclear programme. Some of the most significant and unprecedented breaches and episodes of nuclear proliferation, which this paper will examine, are ignored by many academics. This action shows how most academics and scholars have various standards for nuclear proliferation when it comes to Pakistan, Iran, North Korea, and Israel. Despite the fact that the Israeli story of getting nuclear weapons is significantly more contentious than other nuclear weapon nations outside of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, the Israeli nuclear project is generally immune to criticism and examination in the media and even at international forums (NPT). In addition to studying the past and contemporary geo-strategic aspirations/environments that moulded Israel’s threat perception and conventional/nuclear response options, this research seeks to investigate the role of several governments in knowingly aiding Israel in attaining nuclear capability.
