Abstract
Despite recent extraordinary political advances, such as the transition from monarchy to a secular republic, Nepal’s continued political immaturity and instability indicate that human security remains a pipe dream. Environmental deterioration and climate change have also fueled human insecurity. As an agriculture-dependent country with 50% of the population directly involved in agriculture and practically all sectors based on agriculture, tourism is fully nature-based and human security is extremely proportionate to climate patterns. Climate change produces poverty owing to food grain scarcity, causing a breakdown in the economy and tourism industry, and exacerbating political instability, ethnic conflicts, and extremism. For Nepal, it has become a vicious circle: political instability prevents the implementation of adequate environmental policies, resulting in climate change through environmental degradation, which in turn sparks conflicts and jeopardises political stability. As a result, a comprehensive approach to understanding Nepal’s condition is required to assist secure the lives of its masses.
