Abstract
The involvement of India in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is worth investigating in order to gain a better understanding of the true nature of South Asian regionalism. Indo-centric regional cooperation exists in South Asia. Because of its centre location in the area, India separates all other members from one another. India is the largest and most developed state in South Asia in terms of land, population, natural resources, military might, and economic development. As a result, the success of South Asian regionalism is largely dependent on India’s position in SAARC. This paper presents a theoretical framework for an objective analysis of SAARC’s performance in relation to India’s position in it, but it does not define the process itself. The paper will provide an overview of South Asia and SAARC, then elaborate theories on regional integration, and would discuss how a core state can influence a regional group and hence regional integration as a whole.
