Abstract

Bangladesh has faced many challenges in its diplomatic order. Its 20 years of independence saw 13 years of military rule. In late 1990, however, the political situation altered dramatically. As far as political and social development is concerned, the economic crisis in Bangladesh has been compounded by political problems. Class conflicts, which had for so long been subjugated by the demand for regional autonomy, emerged as the crucial problem. The rebel forces argued that the Bangladesh Independence in 1971 was an unfinished one. Until the 1990s, Bangladesh was considered a liberal society. But that changed rapidly. Bangladesh has seen a rapid growth of political Islam. There is a lack of democratic institutionalization in the country, as it shares its political history with Bangladesh with British and Pakistani eras. Hence, this paper would discuss the political process and challenges of democracy in Bangladesh whilst comparing it with the European models.
