Abstract

The European Union (EU) has shown to be the region’s most innovative and effective organisation at resolving economic issues. The economic agenda in South Asia can benefit greatly from the EU’s expertise in this area. Therefore, it is critical to make concentrated efforts in the appropriate direction for executing regional programmes to achieve economic goals. Despite having both human and natural resources, South Asia’s 1.5 billion people continue to struggle with poverty, illiteracy, underdevelopment, and unemployment. Because of its failure to solve these pressing issues, SAARC should be evaluated, and the key obstacles to its goal should be pinpointed. SAARC, on the other hand, now has an effective regional integration model in the European Union. The paper begins with an analysis of the European Union (EU) as a model for regional integration, describing its institutional make-up and operational procedures, and then provides recommendations for how EU model may be applied in South Asia.
